What is World Alzheimer’s Month (WAM)?
World Alzheimer’s Month is an international campaign held every September to raise awareness and challenge the stigma surrounding dementia. It unites people worldwide to share knowledge, promote understanding, and encourage early diagnosis and support for people living with dementia (PLWD) and their caregivers.

This year, the theme “Ask about Dementia, Ask about Alzheimer’s” reminds us of the importance of open conversations, curiosity, and breaking down the silence around dementia. By asking questions, we build understanding, reduce stigma, and empower communities to take action.

The Memory Walk – Symbolic & Practical
The launch featured the Memory Walk, a meaningful activity that carries both symbolic and practical significance:

  • Symbolic: Walking alongside people with dementia, showing that they are not alone on their journey.
  • Practical: Raising awareness, strengthening community bonds, and mobilising support for those affected by dementia.

Launch of DEMCARE Website
In conjunction with WAM 2025, ADFM also unveiled the DEMCARE website – a new interactive, systems-based platform hosted under Universiti Malaya. Unlike a simple webpage, DEMCARE serves as a comprehensive hub of resources for people living with dementia, carers, healthcare providers, students, and the general public. Future developments will include education modules, caregiver training, and student learning resources to strengthen dementia awareness and care across Malaysia.
